W33 WIDE FLANGE BEAMS

W33 Wide Flange Beams for Sale

Used & Surplus W33 Beams • Long-Span Girders & Heavy Framing • MTRs When Available

Used and surplus W33 wide flange beams sourced nationwide, with freight quotes, plus MTRs and inspection when available.

Birdie Steel Trading sources used and surplus W33 wide flange beams nationwide for long-span girders, transfer beams, and heavy industrial framing. Few projects call for this depth, so reclaimed W33 material is less common than shallower shapes and every request gets its own search instead of a posted stock list. Send the designations, lengths, quantity, grade, and delivery location, or call 732-770-3599, so we can start early.

What W33 beams are used for

W33 sits between W30 and W36 in the deep W-shape range. It is used for long-span floor and roof girders, transfer girders that carry columns over open space, industrial platforms and equipment supports, and some crane runway and bridge work. Deep sections like these can take longer to find on the used and surplus market, so plan lead time and freight early. For the heaviest deep sections, see our jumbo steel beams page.

Across the series, AISC lists weights from 118 to 387 lb/ft, with actual depths from about 32.9 to 36.0 in and flange widths from about 11.5 to 16.2 in (13 sections in the AISC Shapes Database v16.0 summary on our wide flange steel beams page). W33x118 through W33x169 have flanges about 11.5 in wide, and W33x201 through W33x387 have flanges about 15.7 to 16.2 in wide.

Common W33 sizes we source

The list below is the full W33 series in the AISC v16.0 table; the figure after the x is the nominal weight in lb/ft. Used and surplus W33 availability depends heavily on length, grade, and region:

W33x118, W33x130, W33x141, W33x152, W33x169, W33x201, W33x221, W33x241, W33x263, W33x291, W33x318, W33x354, W33x387.

W33 Sample Dimensions

These five W33 rows come from the AISC Shapes Database v16.0 and include both flange families. They are shape data only, not a Birdie inventory list.

W33x118: 118 lb/ft, depth 32.9 in, flange width 11.5 in, web 0.550 in, flange 0.740 in

W33x141: 141 lb/ft, depth 33.3 in, flange width 11.5 in, web 0.605 in, flange 0.960 in

W33x169: 169 lb/ft, depth 33.8 in, flange width 11.5 in, web 0.670 in, flange 1.22 in

W33x201: 201 lb/ft, depth 33.7 in, flange width 15.7 in, web 0.715 in, flange 1.15 in

W33x241: 241 lb/ft, depth 34.2 in, flange width 15.9 in, web 0.830 in, flange 1.40 in

Used and surplus W33 beams

Surplus W33 girders were ordered for a project and never erected, which usually means clean, long pieces. Used W33s are taken from industrial buildings, plants, and other heavy structures, and may carry web penetrations, bearing stiffeners, welded connection material, coped ends, shear studs, and old coatings. Older coatings may contain lead, which matters if the steel will be cut or welded. Birdie Steel Trading provides mill test reports (MTRs) and inspection details on used and surplus W33 beams when available, so you can check grade and condition before a heavy purchase.

A W33 girder usually carries a lot of load, so the engineer of record should approve any reclaimed piece before it goes into permanent structural use.

Grades and MTRs

W33s for buildings are normally ASTM A992 or A572 Grade 50, often dual-certified, and older salvaged girders may be A36. W33x354 and W33x387 have flanges more than 2 in thick, so the AISC Specification can require Charpy toughness testing when they are spliced with complete-joint-penetration welds. The MTRs show the specification for each heat, so tell us early whether your project needs A992 or A572, or can take A36.

Delivery and pickup

W33 shipments need planning for both length and weight. Pieces over 53 ft ride on stretch trailers and may need state oversize permits, and a 60 ft W33x201 weighs about 12,060 lb, so a legal load may hold only three or four such pieces. Most sites need a crane to offload W33 girders, so plan truck access and the lift ahead of time. Birdie can arrange freight, or you can arrange pickup with loading provided, and freight is usually included in your quote. Because deep sections are harder to locate and move, allow more lead time than for lighter W-shapes.

FAQ

Do you stock W33 beams?

W33 inventory is not posted online. We search our nationwide network for used and surplus W33 beams on each request, so send size, length, quantity, grade, and location, or call 732-770-3599, and allow time for the search.

What information do you need for a W33 quote?

Send the full designation (for example W33x141 or W33x241), lengths, quantity or tonnage, grade, acceptable condition, job site location, and need-by date. Say whether a splice is acceptable, because long W33 lengths are harder to find.

Are used W33 beams OK for structural work?

It depends on the girder. A used W33 can work when its section, grade, and condition meet the design and any web penetrations, stiffeners, or camber are accounted for. Use the MTRs and inspection details to document the steel, and get the engineer of record's approval before it goes into permanent service.

How heavy are W33 beams?

AISC lists W33 weights from 118 to 387 lb/ft. A 50 ft length of W33x141 weighs about 7,050 lb, so truck loads, permits, and crane access all matter when planning delivery.

Do W33 quotes include freight?

Most Birdie quotes include freight. For W33 girders, the freight figure depends on lengths, weights, and any oversize or permit needs. You can send your own truck instead, and loading is provided at pickup. Tell us the delivery address and whether a crane can reach the unloading area.
